Laudato Si’ Movement has a new name, a new mission, new values, and a new way of bringing Laudato Si’ to life throughout the world.

As part of its 18-month synodal discernment process, this movement has revised and improved its structure – how it goes about spreading Pope Francis’ message of ecological conversion and integral ecology on six continents.

The biggest change to the structure of the Laudato Si’ Movement, formerly the Global Catholic Climate Movement, is a new identity statement:

“Laudato Si’ Movement seeks to be a Spirit-led movement that brings Catholics together to fulfill its stated mission. The movement brings together a wide range of Catholic (1) organizations and (2) grassroots members from around the world. These members walk together in synodality and communion with the universal Church on a journey of ecological conversion. Seeking unity in diversity, organizational and grassroots members come together to pray, collaborate and mobilize in response to the ‘cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.’ Guided by a spirit of subsidiarity, when the time and context are right, they co-create or engage with local Laudato Si’ Circles and Chapters and connect with the global movement on a wide range of initiatives to bring Laudato Si’ to life.”

The new identity statement continues to bring together both institutions and individuals, representing different charisms within the Church while also birthing something new.

As noted in this statement from members of our international bodies, “[Laudato Si’ Movement collaborates] with the wider global movement caring for our common home, in dialogue and solidarity “with everyone so that together we can seek paths of liberation” (LS 64).

The structure of the Laudato Si’ Movement also now features a Global Forum and Regional Councils. The Regional Councils are being piloted this year in Latin America and Oceania.

Laudato Si’ Movement’s Global Membership Council has a new format as well, with broader membership representation.

Previously the council consisted of Member Organizations, Chapters, and Laudato Si’ Generation. But now it will also incorporate Laudato Si’ Animators of Animators and Laudato Si’ Circles.
