At the Laudato Si’ Movement, we believe that everything is connected—a truth at the heart of Laudato Si’.
War is not only a humanitarian tragedy; it is a deep ecological and social crisis. It destroys lives, displaces communities, drives hunger, and fuels an unjust system where the most vulnerable pay the highest price—while others profit. This is exactly the kind of “throwaway culture” that Pope Francis warned us about.
This petition speaks to that reality with urgency: ceasefires are not enough—the war must end completely and permanently. While people in Iran, Lebanon, and across the region face devastating loss, the ripple effects are felt globally through rising energy and food costs, deepening debt, and collapsing public services. At the same time, fossil fuel and arms corporations continue to profit from this crisis. The call is clear: end the war, make those profiting pay through fair taxation, invest in sustainable food and renewable energy systems, and cancel unjust debt so countries can protect their people and ensure dignity for all.
This call also echoes the voice of Pope Leo XIV, who, standing with communities affected by violence in Bamenda, reminded the world: “I am here to proclaim peace.” Yet he also recognized that it is often those who suffer the most who become the true messengers of peace—walking forward with “dusty feet” on wounded but still fertile land. He warned against the “masters of war” who invest billions in destruction while neglecting the long, difficult work of healing, reminding us that while it takes only a moment to destroy, rebuilding can take a lifetime.
That is why we are adding our voice to this call.
https://theyprofitwepay.org/We joined this petition because ceasefires are not enough. We need a permanent end to war, accountability for those profiting from destruction, and urgent investment in people and the planet. From rising energy costs to deepening debt, this crisis reflects a broken system that prioritizes profit over life.
As a movement rooted in care for our common home, we cannot remain silent.
Signing this petition is an act of faith—and of justice. It is a call to protect both people and the planet, and to choose peace, dignity, and a future where all can thrive.
