The coming of the Savior this Christmas comes to renew our hearts and our hope that our common home can also be saved: “Rather than a problem to be solved, the world is a joyful mystery to be contemplated with gladness and praise” (LS 12).

This Christmas, as a Laudato Si’ Movement family, we want to recognize that Christ not only came into the world, but that he is intrinsically present in creation. From the shepherds who found the Christ Child in a manger surrounded by animals to the symbol of the star that guided the Magi, nature itself is united in praise of the Savior.

In the words of Pope Francis, “The Lord, in the culmination of the mystery of the Incarnation, chose to reach our intimate depths through a fragment of matter. He comes not from above, but from within, he comes that we might find him in this world of ours” (LS 236).

When we contemplate Jesus as a child in creation, we can not only admire the beauty of the natural world, but also commit ourselves to its care.

The Laudato Si’ Movement wishes you a Merry Christmas! May you joyfully discover Christ in every corner of creation.

Let us make this Christmas season a time to renew our relationship with God, with others and with the created world, reaffirming our commitment to care for the Earth as a sign of our faith.
