The weekend of January 25-27 was a momentous occasion for Laudato Si’ Movement (LSM) as it held its first-ever National Encounter in France. This gathering marked a significant milestone, embodying the spirit of synodality that has been guiding LSM’s mission. For the 35 participants, it was an opportunity to deepen their connection to God’s creation, to one another, to the mission of LSM, and to the global movement at large.

Synodality in Practice: A Journey of Reflection and Prayer
The encounter was deeply rooted in the belief that God speaks through creation, inviting us to listen with open hearts. Through the themes of Laudato Si’, participants reflected on the sacred bond between spirituality and care for our common home, recognizing that protecting the planet is not just an act of responsibility but a divine calling.
A profound moment of the gathering was the contemplative Vigil, where participants joined in reflection, prayer, and solidarity with the global movement in a shared mission that knows no borders. Prayer was woven through every part of the encounter, offering space to listen to God’s voice in the book of Creation through Lectio Divina with Creation and culminating in the Eucharist.
For many participants, the encounter was a transformative experience. One participant shared her personal journey, reflecting: “I searched for ten years before discovering LSM. Ten years of discussion, questioning, and frustration with inaction… but when I found the Laudato Si’ Animator training, it was a revelation. A future opened up before me that was no longer utopian, but actually taking shape.”
This powerful testimony highlights the essence of the encounter—a collective realization that LSM is making real, tangible progress in fulfilling its mission. And while the journey is challenging, it’s supported by a compassionate and committed community.

Strengthening the Community
Beyond the reflective sessions and prayers, the encounter also served as a powerful call to action. Volunteers who attended were eager to contribute in new and meaningful ways—whether by writing stories, offering support in practical tasks, or stepping into new roles of leadership. It became clear that everyone, no matter his or her role, is integral to the body of Christ, each playing his or her part in the sacred mission to care for creation and uplift the vulnerable.
As the encounter came to a close, hearts were renewed, and a deep sense of purpose flourished. What once felt like a heavy burden was transformed into a lightness of spirit, carried by the strength of a global community and the certainty that this mission is part of something far greater than ourselves.

Looking Ahead
The journey is just beginning, but the first national encounter in France has been a crucial step forward. The energy and passion shared suggest that a thriving LSM chapter is taking root. Participants return to their communities with renewed purpose, knowing they are part of a global movement dedicated to a mission greater than themselves.
Now is the time to organize or participate in a local or national encounter within your community to continue this journey together.
