After a historic Jubilee of Hope and the inspiring Raising Hope Conference, the Laudato Si’ Movement enters 2026 ready to turn deepened hope into bold, collective action. This new year invites our global community to keep building a Church awake to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor—rooted in prayer, shaped by encounter, and committed to ecological conversion.

Our 2026 plans flow from the movement-wide Encounters process, which continues to guide us in living synodality more fully. This means listening carefully to local realities, honoring the bonds that shape each community, and allowing global work to truly rise from the ground up. Even as we grieve the ongoing impacts of the climate crisis, we remain grounded in gratitude for one another and strengthened by the belief that “injustice is not invincible” (Laudato Si’ 74).

Below is an overview of what 2026 will look like—key global moments, movement-building priorities, and the strategic initiatives that will guide our mission worldwide.

Movement Building: A Community Rooted in Hope

Our members—Laudato Si’ Animators, Chapter leaders, Circles, and Member Organizations—remain the heartbeat of our mission. In 2026 we will continue strengthening structures that reflect subsidiarity, ensuring decisions are close to the people most impacted, and leadership is shared, mission-driven, and sustainable.

At a global level, we will:

  • Strengthen the Animators Program with improved pedagogy, expanded language access, and new formation opportunities (online and in person).
  • Support leadership pathways for Circle leaders, Animators of Animators, and those guiding others in their eco-spiritual journey.
  • Improve accompaniment of Chapter leadership teams, ensuring robust local-to-global connections.
  • Map and engage Member Organizations so their local voices and contributions enrich global initiatives.

Regional Priorities for 2026

Africa – Expand vibrant Chapters, equip emerging ecological leaders, and foster collaboration to advance solutions rooted in community experience.

Asia Pacific – Conduct structured discernment to identify new Chapters and strengthen networks of young formators and facilitators.

North America – Support new and existing Chapters and deepen a shared campaign to strengthen the Church’s voice for creation care.

Europe – Promote divestment and fossil-free solutions, mobilize partners to push the EU for climate leadership, and broaden Laudato Si’ outreach to new Catholic groups through resources like Dilexit nos and Dilexit te.

Hispanic America – Host the first Hispanic American Meeting of the Laudato Si’ Movement in Bogotá (2026), energizing regional ecological conversion.

Brazil & Lusophone Regions – Build on the momentum of Raising Hope and COP30 by strengthening the grassroots, deepening Church alliances, and expanding government engagement—especially in this election year.

Global Campaigns & Strategic Areas

Grounded in our theory of change, the Laudato Si’ Movement continues to prioritize the interconnected paths of eco-conversion, full sustainability, and prophetic advocacy.

Eco-Conversion

Spirituality remains the heart of all we do. In 2026, we will:

  • Develop new formation resources rooted in Laudato Si’ spirituality.
  • Highlight the new Mass for the Care of Creation.
  • Continue integrating Dilexit nos and Dilexit te into spiritual formation.
  • Renew the Creation Care Prayer Network, anchoring our work in prayer.
  • Strengthen the Season of Creation as a global moment of unity, formation, and prophetic action.

Full Sustainability

As the operational partner of the Laudato Si’ Action Platform (LSAP), we will:

  • Expand and deepen LSAP pathways for institutions seeking ecological transformation.
  • Coordinate shared formation, engagement strategies, and practical tools to help institutions turn commitments into measurable change.
  • Launch the People’s Determined Contributions (PDCs) initiative within LSAP—amplifying the ecological actions of Catholic communities globally and integrating them into international climate processes.

Prophetic Advocacy

In 2026, LSM will continue two major global advocacy campaigns:

Fossil Fuel Phase-Out

We will work toward a just transition away from fossil fuels by:

  • Supporting calls for a global fossil fuel phase-out roadmap.
  • Encouraging the Holy See and Church institutions to back the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.
  • Expanding fossil-free divestment and ethical bank-switching across Catholic institutions.
  • Working with global coalitions to stop new fossil fuel projects, including EACOP.

People’s Determined Contributions (PDCs)

We aim to break the cycle of low ambition at COPs by:

  • Advancing the civil society–led PDCs initiative launched at the Raising Hope Conference.
  • Producing a bold Catholic PDC grounded in LSAP participation and presenting it at COP31.

Youth Engagement: The Road to World Youth Day 2027

Inspired by the Encounter process, 2026 will include new efforts to re-energize youth leadership. Formation and organizing will begin in preparation for World Youth Day 2027 in Korea, creating pathways for young Catholics to lead ecological conversion and advocacy.

Looking Ahead: A New LSM Website

In 2026, we will also launch a redesigned website—including regional contact spaces, a practical hub for Chapters and Circles, and easier access to resources that support formation, action, and advocacy.

Moving Forward Together

2026 will be a year of weaving hope into action—through formation, community building, prophetic witness, and global advocacy. As we continue listening to local realities and strengthening global connections, we trust in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit guiding our movement.

Together, we will keep walking the path of ecological conversion, renewing our commitment to care for our common home.
