Belém, Brazil, November 18, 2025

The Laudato Si’ Movement has officially presented the People’s Determined Contributions (PDCs) to the COP30 Presidency during a Global Ethic Stocktake event held in the Blue Zone of the UN Climate Conference. The presentation was made by the Movement’s Executive Director, Lorna Gold, to Brazil’s Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, who received more than 2,000 commitments already made by faith communities around the world.

The initiative stems from the “Raising Hope Conference, held in Castel Gandolfo, where the first concept of the PDCs was introduced as a global call for individuals, communities, and institutions to take concrete action in response to the climate crisis. At COP30 in Belém, the platform was officially launched, arriving with hundreds of commitments submitted even before its public release.

According to Lorna Gold, the People’s Determined Contributions represent “a way to highlight the countless initiatives that peoples and communities are already undertaking to confront the climate crisis.” She adds: “The PDCs show that civil society is stepping up, because governments so far have not taken on commitments sufficient to address the climate emergency.”

The official handover of the PDCs took place within the discussions of the Global Ethic Stocktake, a process in which the Laudato Si’ Movement is actively engaged to reinforce that climate action must be guided by ethical principles, socio-environmental justice, and shared responsibility among peoples and nations.

The initiative remains open for more individuals, communities, and institutions to join this global effort. With this handover, the Laudato Si’ Movement is also calling COP delegates to focus on two key priorities for the Catholic delegation this week:

  1. adopting strong and explicit language on the phase-out of fossil fuels, and

  2. ensuring that both the Global Ethical Stocktake and the People’s Determined Contributions (PDCs) are meaningfully reflected in the final COP outcome.
