Nigeria: Called by the Spirit to a holistic approach

National encounter in Nigeria

In Nigeria, LSM members gathered in an enriching space to share their most significant experiences, highlighting the transformative power of community. The testimonies underlined that, although challenges are inevitable, the joys and learning far outweigh the difficulties, promoting personal growth and strengthening the bonds that unite us all.

Participants mentioned feeling called by the Holy Spirit to adopt a holistic approach based on the principles of Laudato Si’. This involves integrating ecological awareness, social justice and deep spirituality into daily actions. In turn, they stressed the importance of fostering a caring community, adopting sustainable practices, caring for creation and showing special solidarity with the most vulnerable, as essential steps towards a more just and sustainable world.

The experiences shared by each participant reflect a journey filled with transformative joys, meaningful challenges and lasting connections. For them, being part of LSM in Nigeria provides a deep sense of belonging and purpose. The encounter reaffirmed the value of community as a space for spiritual growth and joint action to build a better future.

Canada spiritually connected, mission-driven

The Laudato Si’ National Encounter in Canada was held virtually and was a deeply inspiring space to reflect on the responsibility of the communities of the Global North in the ecological crisis. Bishop Jon Hansen of MacKenzie-Fort Smith was present and encouraged Chapter members to be leaders. LSM Executive Director Susana Réfega also stressed that social justice and integral ecology can only be understood through love.

Through ecological prayers, meditations and reflections, participants connected spiritually, reinforcing their commitment to the Laudato Si’ values. There was a moment for dialogue in groups where ideas and experiences were shared.

Among the activities proposed, concrete ways of integrating the mission of Laudato Si’ into daily life, organizing contemplative walks with clean-up actions, writing to the bishops to prioritize the Laudato Si’ Action Platform, and strengthening the network of French-speaking animators were suggested. The importance of maintaining a focus on ecological spirituality and social advocacy was also discussed.
