On the sidelines of an address last week in St. Peter’s Square, Laudato Si’ Movement Board Member María Lia Zervino and Executive Director Lorna Gold greeted Pope Leo XIV. Our movement was with them.

With an album of photographs representing the rich tapestry of activities over the years–including a social media post by then-Archbishop Robert Prevost!–María Lia and Lorna carried the spirit and vitality of our movement to Rome.

Pope Leo XIV warmly greeted the entire movement. A true heart for servant leadership came through in his humility and kindness.

In his Regina Caeli address from the balcony in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Leo XIV recognized the tenth anniversary of the Laudato Si’ encyclical, taking time to ”greet and encourage the Laudato Si’ Movement and all those who care for this commitment” to our common home.

During Laudato Si’ Week, people around the world put that commitment into practice. With hundreds of events and messages that reached hundreds of thousands of people, we stood together to Raise Hope for all.

It is a marvelous gift that Pope Leo XIV stands close with everyone who cares for creation.

Together, we pray with Psalm 133: “How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!”
