Students of Kabayan Central Integrated School, with teachers and a Laudato Si’ Animator, participated in an Environmental Education workshop during Season of Creation 2025

The Season of Creation 2026 is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through celebration, conversion, and commitment together. Celebrated annually from September 1 to October 4—the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi—this ecumenical season mobilizes churches, faith-based organizations, and communities worldwide to respond to the ecological crisis.

For 2026, the official theme is “Living Water.”

Based on the biblical text Ezekiel 47:9, 12.

What is the Season of Creation?

The Season of Creation is an international, ecumenical initiative celebrated by Christian denominations around the world. It begins on September 1, recognized by many as the World Day of Prayer for Creation, and concludes on October 4.

The season provides a structured framework for:

  • Environmental prayer and liturgy
  • Faith-based climate action
  • Community engagement and education
  • Advocacy for ecological justice

2026 Theme: Living Water (Ezekiel 47:9, 12)

The 2026 theme, Living Water, is inspired by the biblical vision found in the Book of Ezekiel (47:9, 12). The passage describes water flowing from God’s sanctuary, bringing life and restoration to ecosystems and communities.

Key meaning of the Living Water theme:

  • Ecological restoration: Water as a symbol of healing for degraded ecosystems
  • Spiritual renewal: Connection between faith, baptism, and transformation
  • Human responsibility: Stewardship of natural resources, especially water
  • Climate justice: Focus on communities most affected by water scarcity and pollution

The theme aligns with growing global concerns about freshwater access, biodiversity loss, and environmental sustainability.

Symbol of 2026: Immersion in Living Water

The official symbol for 2026 is Immersion in Living Water, representing both spiritual reflection and ecological awareness.

Symbol highlights:

  • Water sources: rivers, lakes, oceans, and baptismal fonts
  • Contemplative practices rooted in nature
  • Recognition of environmental suffering (“tears of creation”)
  • Solidarity with vulnerable populations impacted by environmental degradation

This symbol reinforces the connection between faith practices and environmental responsibility.

Why the Season of Creation Matters in 2026

The Season of Creation continues to grow as a key moment for faith-based climate engagement. The 2026 theme, Living Water, highlights urgent global issues such as:

  • Water scarcity and access to clean water
  • Ecosystem degradation and biodiversity loss
  • The intersection of poverty and environmental vulnerability

The Season of Creation 2026 offers a strategic opportunity for churches, organizations, and communities to engage in environmental stewardship through a faith-based lens. With the theme Living Water, the 2026 observance emphasizes restoration, renewal, and shared responsibility for the Earth.

As this global season approaches, it becomes an open invitation to move beyond awareness into meaningful action—uniting prayer, community engagement, and concrete steps to protect our common home.

By embracing both faith and action, communities around the world are called to become sources of hope and renewal—allowing care for creation to flow into everyday life, shaping a more just, sustainable, and life-giving future for all.
