It all started with a simple question: What led her to become a Laudato Si’ AnimatorSister Brigitte Brunet, from St Côme d’Olt, in the Aveyron region of France, was the first to realize the urgent need for change to protect our common home. Her training on ecological and evangelical responsibility in Ireland led her to meet Jane Mellet of Laudato Si’ Movement.

Sr. Brigitte is part of the Ursuline Community of the Roman Union in MALET, who organized an event called “The Month of Creation” in their village. Each evening, they invited pilgrims walking the Camino de Compostela, the inhabitants of their community and parish to join them in praying together at sunset.

During this sacred moment, they reflected on different excerpts from Laudato Si’, seeking inspiration and guiding others on the path towards responsible action. They also organized a “walk in the heart of creation” (Balade au cœur de la création in French) following a prayer of St. Francis of Assisi.

Each stage of this walk was dedicated to honoring and thanking an element of nature: water, fire and more. To seal their commitment to our common home, they planted an albizia, a living symbol of their care for Mother Nature.

Brigitte and her community also discussed and reflected on the film The Letter. Their commitment to Laudato Si’ reminds us that we all have a role to play in the preservation of our common home.
