In the last month of 2021, as we move into Advent, the Monthly Prayer Encounter was broadcast from Nairobi, Kenya, led by the Africa team.

From his chapel in Nairobi, Brother Benedict Ayodi inspired us by lighting the candle of the first week of Advent, already passed. He also explained the meaning of the Advent Wreath and each of the candles.

As usual, the gathering was accompanied by songs, performed by artists from different places. Leodie Riza read the Laudato Si’ quote of the month (LS 236) and made an allusive reflection.

Sister Bernadette Crewe-Brown offered an Advent reflection on plants, trees and birds. You can find it in this month’s Laudato Si’ Encounter

If you didn’t get a chance to join the meeting, watch it here:

“The Lord, in the culmination of the mystery of the Incarnation, chose to reach our intimate depths through a fragment of matter.” (LS 236), notes the intention of the December Laudato Si’ Encounter.

A prayer guide for community prayer can be found in this free downloadable resource. In addition to Sister Bernadette’s reflection, a Laudato Si’ Animator and Sister of the Uganda Medical Mission serving in Malawi shares her story of ecological conversion.

Also Chris J.A. Coutinho, from the Nairobi Laudato Si’ circle invites us to reflect on the song of creation and the testimony of Rainer Boniface “digging wells and praying together”, calls us to become aware of the reality of our brothers and sisters, affected by the climate crisis.
