National Encounter in Cameroon
As we journey together on our synodal road with the pilgrim Church, the 2024 Encounters organized by the Laudato Si’ Movement hold exceptional significance for the movement’s mission and its members. These encounters are not merely events but vital opportunities to renew our commitment to integral ecology, community, and shared leadership.
The encounters serve multiple key purposes that strengthen and unify our movement:
- Strengthening the sense of community
At the heart of the Laudato Si’ Movement is a vibrant and diverse global network of members. These members come from different cultural, social, and geographical backgrounds, united by a common mission: to care for our common home. The 2024 encounters are playing a crucial role in deepening this sense of community within LSM by providing a space for members to connect on a more personal and communal level.
In these encounters, we’re not only sharing ideas and initiatives but also listening to each other’s stories, challenges, and triumphs as we evaluate our next steps for the coming years. This sharing fosters solidarity, a key value in our movement, reminding us that we are not alone in our mission.Â
Strengthening our sense of community helps members feel more supported and connected, ensuring that everyone feels a sense of belonging and that their contributions matter. The bonds we create through these encounters will enhance our ability to work together effectively, motivated by a shared sense of purpose and unity.
- Facilitating synodal work within the Movement
The concept of synodality, or “walking together,” is at the core of our Church’s mission, the Jubilee of 2025 and deeply resonates with the values of our Movement. The 2024 encounters are designed to embody and facilitate this synodal spirit by creating spaces where dialogue, collaboration, and discernment can flourish. Synodality emphasizes listening to one another, building consensus, and making decisions collectively, ensuring that all voices are heard and respected.
The encounters, utilizing report forms and one-on-one follow-ups, provide opportunities for plenary and small group discussions, and collaborative planning sessions to analyze the past, present, and future of our movement. These activities aim to encourage members to contribute their perspectives and insights, fostering a decision-making process that is truly inclusive.Â
By working together in this manner, we can ensure that our actions as a movement are not only strategic but also aligned with the values of participation, transparency, and mutual respect. This synodal approach strengthens the internal dynamics of LSM, establishing it as a model of inclusive leadership within our spirit-led movement.

- Strengthening LSM as a member-led Movement
Being member-led is fundamental to the success and direction of the movement. That depends on the active participation and leadership of our grassroot members. The 2024 encounters aim to serve as a platform to enhance this member-led model by empowering individuals to take on more prominent roles in the movement’s projects and initiatives.
Through training, mentoring, and leadership development opportunities, the encounters equip members with the tools they need to lead confidently and effectively. This focus extends beyond formal leadership roles; it encourages members to take initiative in their communities, contribute ideas, and lead projects that align with the values of Laudato Si’.Â
By strengthening the movement in this way, we create a more decentralized and dynamic structure where leadership is shared, and members feel a greater sense of ownership over the direction of LSM. This approach ensures that the movement remains agile, resilient, and deeply connected to the grassroots efforts that drive it forward.
- Promoting cooperation among LSM members
The 2024 encounters are designed to foster collaboration among members in new and meaningful ways. One of the primary goals of these encounters is to encourage cross-cultural, intergenerational, and interdisciplinary cooperation. By bringing together members from diverse backgrounds and regions, the encounters provide a unique opportunity for knowledge-sharing and joint problem-solving.
During these encounters, members are having the opportunity to learn from each other’s experiences and expertise.
