The United World Week, promoted and run by the Focolare Movement from May 1st – 7th, is the annual worldwide celebration to promote fraternity, unity and peace between peoples. This year the Laudato Si’ Movement has been an official partner.

The international opening was held on May 1st in the “little town” of Focolari in Loppiano, Tuscany, Italy, and welcomed 1300 young people from different parts of the world. There was a live streaming event with various testimonies from across the globe: from Africa to Asia, Europe and America. It was a blast of life boosted by the concert of Gen Rosso band and the exhibition of the youth of Youth For United World.

Several workshops were also organized around the “Common Ground: ME, YOU, US” pathway. Laudato Si’ Movement conducted a workshop under the “US” on “The planetary Crisis and The Letter that Enlightens the Way”: a presentation with the initial trailer of the film The Letter that encouraged a thorough discussion on the themes of climate and ecological justice.

The workshop was attended by youth, young adults and adults, sharing the same goal of a united and caring world for the good of creation. The day concluded with a Mass in the beautiful Church Maria Theotokos (Mary Mother of God).

On the concluding day, May 7th, there was the worldwide relay race “Run4Unity”, supported and promoted by the Laudato Si’ Action Platform of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.
