We are going through a happy moment, we are now the Laudato Si’ Movement! Were you aware of this? Last Thursday, July 29, we made the official announcement of our new name. With more defined values and a more concrete mission, which emerged from a long discernment process, LSM is now renewed.

At the annual conference of the National Justice and Peace Network of England and Wales on July 24, Dr. Lorna Gold, chair of the Board of Directors of the Laudato Si’ Movement, gave a speech in which she raised awareness of the importance of ecological conversion. “It’s about entering into a new reality, about already inhabiting that future and inviting others to enter,” she said.

The Diocese of Westminster, in England, joined the group of the Church that is committed to divesting from fossil fuels, pledging to be “carbon zero” by 2030. This was announced by its archbishop, Cardinal Vincent Gerard Nichols, in a video addressed to the community.

In the city of Assisi this Monday, August 2, the feast of the Pardon of Assisi was celebrated in the Portiuncula, a small church inside the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. This feast is in memory of the request of great St. Francis of Assisi, that all who visit the temple “obtain a broad and generous pardon”. Did you know this story?

Calendar in hand, save yourself a spot!

We begin a new month and with it a new opportunity to gather in prayer. As we do every first Friday of the month, this August 6 will be our Monthly Prayer Gathering. This month, it will be the turn of our brothers from Asia and Oceania to lead the meeting.

The meeting will be held in English, but you can watch it in your language through our YouTube channel. What time? At 9:00 in New York, 15:00 in Rome and 21:00 in Manila, check here for the time in your country.

Also, we invite you to remember that Monday, August 9 is the International Day for the World’s Indigenous Peoples. They are the guardians of most of our planet’s biodiversity, what will you do that day to honor them?
