The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is holding its 42nd session in Rome from Monday, June 14 to Friday, June 18, and Pope Francis sent a message to its participants.
“It is important to ensure that food systems are resilient, inclusive, sustainable and able to provide healthy and affordable diets for all,” the Pontiff told them and encouraged living a “circular economy” and the use of “renewable energies.”
This June 15 was celebrated as World Wind Day and around the world the production of wind energy was encouraged. This day, promoted by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and WindEurope (WE), has been celebrated since 2007.
On the occasion of the G7 Summit, which began in Cornwall, UK, last Friday, the English bishops urged to “save the environment and the most vulnerable”, through a letter sent to the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.
“In our race for economic and technological progress we have ended up exploiting so many people and ruining the planet,” the bishops wrote. “We need to act to support developing nations and ensure that they are not left behind in decision-making and have adequate access to vaccines.”
In addition, Last week the Plenary of the European Parliament approved, by 515 votes in favor, 90 against and 86 abstentions, a report calling for the drafting of a new European Biodiversity Law, “similar to the Climate Law, with binding targets, for 2030 and 2050.”
Representatives of the Global Catholic Climate Movement Africa met with Leah Wanambwa, Senior Policy Officer of the Sustainable Environment and Blue Economy Directorate of the African Union (AU) Commission to work together for climate justice and equity for Africa.
