On Sunday, May 21, a new Laudato Si’ Week began and Pope Francis announced it from the St. Peter’s Square balcony during the Regina Coeli prayer.
With special thanks to the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, “and to the many adherent organizations,” the Pontiff invited Catholics “to collaborate in the care of our common home,” calling especially for “pooling skills and creativity” to succeed.
Pope Francis also recalled recent natural disasters, “such as the floods that have occurred in recent days in the region of Emilia Romagna”, to whom he again sent his support and solidarity.
During the week, hundreds of events will be held around the world, organized by various movements and institutions and by Laudato Si’ Movement chapters. In particular, there will be multiple screenings of the film “The Letter,” the main resource guiding Laudato Si’ Week content.
In addition, on Tuesday 23 there will be an in-person event in Rome: a round table discussion entitled: “Hope for the Earth. Hope for Humanity”; and on Thursday 25, Card. Michael Czerny will lead the press conference at which Pope Francis’ message for Creation Day, celebrated on September 1, will be released.
The weekend’s highlights will culminate with two main events, Responding to The Letter and Proclaim the Gospel of Creation: Assisi’s Missionary Send-off of Laudato Si’ Animators, both streamed live on Zoom and YouTube.
