Across Europe, something powerful is happening. More than 100 faith-based organizations — working in ecology, solidarity, migration, peacebuilding, education, and justice — are coming together with one shared conviction: our common home cannot wait. The Laudato Si’ Movement is launching a united call to European institutions and national leaders, urging them to choose courage, compassion, and climate justice at a moment when the future of our planet hangs in the balance. Among those joining this unprecedented effort are Caritas Europa, CIDSE, Pax Christi, Justice & Peace Europe, and many others participating in a Laudato Si’ campaign for the very first time. Its name is a promise and a challenge:

Europe, Be Faithful to Our Common Home

This campaign speaks from the heart of faith communities who believe that care for creation is inseparable from care for people. For decades, Europe has helped shape global climate leadership and human rights commitments. But today, that leadership is being tested. Policies that weaken environmental protections, delay climate commitments, or deepen fossil fuel dependence risk turning away from the values Europe once helped champion. This campaign calls Europe to remember who it is — and who it can still become. The call is clear:

  • End all new fossil fuel exploration immediately
  • Commit to a fossil fuel phase-out:
    • coal by 2030
    • gas by 2035
    • oil by 2040
  • End fossil fuel subsidies and tax fossil fuel profits permanently
  • Ensure a just transition that protects workers, families, and vulnerable communities
  • Provide ambitious and accessible climate finance for the Global South

But beyond policies and targets, this campaign is about people. It is about families already losing homes to floods and droughts. Communities displaced by extractivism and conflict. Migrants forced to flee violence and environmental collapse. Young people are wondering what kind of future awaits them. The climate crisis is no longer distant. It is deeply personal. And faith communities are refusing to look away. Standing in solidarity with the bishops of the Global South and communities most affected by the crisis, this campaign reminds us that climate action is not only a political responsibility — it is a moral one. As Pope Leo XIV recently reminded the world: “To them, climate change is not a distant threat, and to ignore these people is to deny our shared humanity.”

Hope Becomes Real When It Is Lived

Change does not begin only in conference halls or government offices. It begins in our communities. In our parishes. In our prayers. In the conversations we dare to have. In the courage to believe another future is still possible. You do not need to be an expert or an activist to take part in this movement. You only need a willingness to stand with others in defense of life, dignity, and creation. Here are some ways you can join:

Every voice matters. Every community matters. Every act of hope matters. Because the future is not written yet. And together, we can still choose a path that is faithful to our common home. https://laudatosimovement.org/eubefaithful/
